China Medical University a university in the city of Shenyang, Liaoning, China under the provincial and central governments. The China Medical University (CMU) was the first medical school established by the Chinese Communist Party. Its precursor was the Chinese Workers’-Peasants’ Red Army Military Medical School and Chinese Workers’-Peasants’ Red Army Health School which had been founded in Ruijin city, Jiangxi province, in 1931. After the Long March with the Red Army, it was relocated to Shanbei.
In 1940 comrade Mao Zedong proposed, and the central committee of the Chinese Communist Party approved, the name of the school being changed to China Medical University. In July 1946 the university was ordered to enter northeast China with the army and reached Xinshan city (now Hegang city), Heilongjiang province. In November 1948 the whole northeast of China was liberated and the university was ordered to move to Shenyang. In 1948 and 1949 it absorbed the medical school formerly operated by the (Japanese) South Manchuria Railway (the South Manchuria Medical College, later called the Shenyang Medical College which had opened in 1911) and the Mukden Medical College (sometimes spelled Moukden Medical College) whose origins go back to 1892 when Dr Dugald Christie founded the Shenjing Medical School. In 1911/1912 this became a formal medical college, the Mukden Medical College.
Language of Instruction
China Medical University has been having the instruction of their medical program and other programs in English and Chinese since 1978. The English faculty was started mainly for overseas Chinese students who wanted to study medicine in China, Since CMU is a leading university it attracts Chinese faculties who have studied overseas in English and also the ones who have worked abroad for a few years.
Moreover in purist of excellence and in tune with International faculty exchange program and student exchange program the faculties are sent abroad for training and to develop learning methodology and techniques, so we ensure that the program we offer is of higher quality and standing.
Why CMU ?
Since we are a reputed and top ranking University in China, we attract the best talents available in the country. As informed there are lots of faculties in our university, who have studied in Europe, USA or UK and those who have worked in the can speak English very well. More over as our University cooperate in students exchange program and faculty exchange program with universities from USA, UK and other countries so our faculty had a very good exposure to English program , English speaking students and International students.
CURRICULUM AND FACULTIES
This is a very important today for any medical student and any medical college taking student from India. Student went in large numbers to European countries like Russia Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Armenia to study medicine. They could not do well in their Screening Test Exam conducted by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the students failed in mass. This is because the students had to study in a different system and the MCI had conducted the exam in the pattern based on the syllabus and system of India.
To solve this problem CMU has adapted MCI curriculum in collaboration with International Curriculum to keep its standards high. This is of greatest advantage to Indian students. All other universities claim to do so.but as a parent you need to check the following..
1. How long has the English medium being functioning
2. Has any graduate come out of English medium so far?
3. What is the success rate?
4. How many foreign students are there?
5. Has any international student got scholarship till now?
CMU has
1. Indian curriculum in collaboration with International Syllabus for the medical program
2. Indian text books along with those of USA and UK editions
3. Will be arranging Indian cook for Indian students
4. Separate facilities for girls and Boys
5. Arranges for parents to visit the University.
China Medical University (CMU) is one of the top ten medical schools in China. It is a university with a history of nearly 81 years. CMU started as the Military Medical School and Health School of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and later merged two medical schools in Shenyang:the governmental Shenyang Medical College and the former private Liaoning Medical College, both of which had a history of about one hundred years. CMU was a university affiliated with Ministry of Health (MOH) previously and became a university co-constructed by Liaoning Province together with MOH in the year 2000. CMU has 28 colleges, 56 disciplines or specialties offering doctoral degrees, 67 disciplines or specialties offering master’s degrees, 4 postdoctoral research stations, 13 specialties for undergraduates and 10 higher technical specialties. CMU also has 3 affiliated general hospitals and 1 dental hospital. The number of CMU staff now is 13,121 and that of the registered students is 54,609.
Shenyang (沈阳) is the capital as well as the largest metropolitan area of the Liaoning province in the People’s Republic of China. On the basis of urban population count, Shenyang is the largest city in Northeast China. The city comprises nine metropolitan districts of Shenyang proper, the county-level urban hub of Xinmin, and the three counties of Faku, Liaozhong, and Kangping.
POPULATION
Shenyang has an urban population of 5.74 million inhabitants and a total population of up to 8.1 million according to the 2010 census.
TRACING THE ROOTS
The city region now known as Shenyang was earlier identified as Mukden. The literal meaning of the word Shenyang is ‘the city to the north of Shen River’ or ‘submerged light’. Shenyang was also once upon a time known as Shengjing or Fengtian Prefecture.
Qin Kai, a General of Yan in the Warring States period about 300 BCE, first set up the City of Shenyang. The city was initially named Hou City (候城). Then, it was named Shen Prefecture (渖州) in the Jin dynasty regime, Shenyang Circuit ( 渖阳路) in the Yuan Dynasty and Shenyang Zhongwei (渖阳中卫) during the Ming Dynasty phase. Nurhaci, the Manchu leader captured Shenyang in 1625 and made it his capital. In 1634, the name was changed to Shengjing or Mukden. Under Nurhaci’s orders in 1626, the Imperial Palace was made the representative center of Shenyang. It has over 300 flamboyantly decorated rooms and 20 gardens symbolizing authority and magnificence.
CLIMATE
Shenyang experiences hot and humid summers whereas cold and dry winters. The summers are influenced by the monsoon and the winter season is affected by the Siberian anticyclone. Most of the rainfall occurs in July and August. The city remains frost free for 183 days.
ECONOMY
The city of Shenyang is an important industrial hub that forms the core of the New Special Reform Zone, the Shenyang Economic Zone. Since the 1920s, the focus here has been on heavy industries like defense equipment, aerospace, and machine tools and during the 1970s, the city was regarded as one of the top three industrial centres in China along with Shanghai and Tianjin. But after the 1980s, the heavy industry sector suffered a set back and it declined gradually. However due to the Chinese Government’s “Revitalize Northeast China” campaign, the economy has picked up momentum and of late emphasis has been laid on software, electronics and auto manufacture industries.
Multinational corporations (MNCs) that set up offices or headquarters in Shenyang are granted investment subsidies. In the banking sector, foreign banks too have made their presence felt with the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ of Japan, Hong Kong’s Bank of East Asia Ltd., Singapore’s United Overseas Bank Ltd., South Korea’s Hana Bank, having their branches in the city. In 2006, a total of 1,063 banks and bank branches and 144 insurance-related companies have set up offices in Shenyang.
