Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DLUFL)

INTRODUCTION
The Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DLUFL) is a provincial university located in Dalian, Liaoning in the People’s Republic of China. The university finds a place of prominence among the foreign languages universities in China and is ranked among the top eight. DLUFL happens to be the only full-fledged foreign languages institute in the North eastern part of China.

TRACING THE ROOTS
The Dalian University of Foreign Languages was initially set up in 1964 with help from the late Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai. In the beginning it was known as Dalian School of Japanese Language. It was set up In order to train foreign affairs officials, Japanese translators and Japanese interpreters, the Japanese language. Subsequently, in the 1970s, the School of English studies as well as the School of Russian studies were set up. The Economic Reform in China brought about since 1978, necessitated the need to start departments teaching other languages as well. Towards the middle of the 1980s the Education Ministry of the People’s Republic of China gave permission to the university to offer post graduate courses.

CAMPUS
The main campus of the Dalian University of Foreign Languages was shifted to Lüshunkou District, Dalian, No.6 Lüshun South Road, in April 2007. But the School of Chinese Studies, where foreigners are being imparted lessons in the Chinese language, remained in Zhongshan District, Dalian, No.94 Yán’ān Road till December 2012.

TEACHING STAFF
A staff of near about 900 faculty members in the position of professors and associate professors are being employed by the university to teach in the various departments of study. Near about eighty teachers from countries like the United States, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Korea are employed on a regular basis and they are offering their services as teachers of languages of their respective countries.

PROGRAMMES
A wide array of subjects is being offered as part of the curriculum at DLUFL. Besides languages that includes Japanese, English, Russian, French, Korean, German, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, Chinese Literature, Teaching Chinese as a Second language, bachelor and masters degree are also being given for subjects like Art Design, Tourism Management, International Economics & Trade, Computer Science & Technology, Information Management and Information Systems, Computer Software Engineering, Journalism and Music Studies.

ON-SITE LANGUAGE TESTS
Various language tests such as TOEFL, GRE, HSK, JLPT, BJT, KLPT, and WSK are conducted and administered at the Dalian University of Foreign Languages.

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM
The Dalian University of Foreign Languages has entered into partnership with over hundred institutions including universities, research institutions and civil societies from 20 countries across the globe. Under its International exchange programme, more than 300 undergraduates and postgraduates are sent abroad each year to study at prestigious universities in Japan, Russia, the Republic of Korea, France, Germany, Austria, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries.
