Taishan Medical University

The Taishan Medical University is situated in the city of Taian, in the Shandong province of the People’s Republic of China. The university is spread across an area of 200 hectares.

TRACING ITS ROOTS
The university was founded in 1891 with the name Huamei Hospital Medical School and since then has been amalgamated with a number of institutions taking on different names. Finally in 1979, the university was shifted to the present location in Taian city with the name Taian Branch College of Shandong Medical College. Later in 1981, the State Council approved the new name of Taishan Medical University.

FACULTY
A team of some well known faculty numbering around 1500 is working in the university in the various departments. Among them, 1100 are fulltime teachers including 450 assistant professors. The list of faculty members include 14 who receive special governmental allowances financed by the State Council, 10 young outstanding contribution experts, 6 famous provincial teachers and one professor titled “Taishan Scholar”, 7 state teachers of excellence, besides 15 academicians of repute.

STUDENTS
A total number of over 20,000 students are pursuing their studies under the various departments of the university. These include undergraduates and college students, besides 600 postgraduates and another 13,000 students studying in the department of adult education. Moreover 500 international students mainly from Asia, Africa and America are also undergoing studies here.

EXCHANGE AND COOPERATIVE RELATIONS WITH FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES
The Taishan Medical University has established cooperative relations in the fields of education, scientific research and cultural exchanges with universities of 22 countries like Singapore, Korea, Japan, Ukraine, U.S., and U.K. Every year the university selects outstanding teachers and researchers and sends them abroad to attend seminars and give lectures. Likewise undergraduate and postgraduate students are also exchanged with Japan and Korea. In June 2011, the university was authorized by national Hanban to hold tests for Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK).

DEGREE AWARDED
The university confers medical degree and grants graduation certificate to international medical undergraduate students, on completion of their required study and on passing the graduation examinations successfully. The English copy of the degree will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). The degrees awarded by The Taishan Medical University are recognized by MCI, MMC, NMC, WHO and USMEL.

INTERNSHIP AND CAREER
The international students studying at the university are required to do the internship in the 11 affiliated hospitals of the university. Before the internship, students are required to reach HSK 3, the Chinese proficiency test.

FACILITIES OFFERED
The library of this prestigious university houses about 2,560,000 books including 1,170,000 e-books. The university also has one affiliated hospital, 11 non-direct affiliated hospitals and more than 230 practice and internship bases for the students.
