Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU)

The Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU), one of the foremost aeronautical and astronautical universities in China, is a comprehensive research university located in Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning province in Northeast China. It trains and prepares students for supporting the military and civil aviation industries of China.

TRACING THE ROOTS
Set up by the Chinese government in 1952, this prestigious university, since 1999 has been under the administration of the Liaoning Provincial Government and it happens to be the only university owned by the China Industry and Information Technology Ministry and the Liaoning Provincial Government. Moreover it is one of the eight universities constructed by the former National Defence Ministry of China and local provincial governments. Initially the university was named as Shenyang Institute of Aeronautical Engineering (SYIAE). Later on 18 March 2010, the name was changed to Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU) with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

COURSES OFFERED
Though teaching at SAU is primarily characterized by aeronautics and astronautics, this institute of higher learning is a multi-disciplinary university, which, while focusing on engineering, also covers such areas as science, liberal arts and management. A total of 46 courses of undergraduate study, 50 disciplines of graduate study and joint programs for doctorates are offered. Degrees awarded from Shenyang Aerospace University are recognized world-wide.

FACILITIES PROVIDED
SAU being a first rate institution offers its students a wide array of state-of-the-art facilities on its campus. These facilities include research laboratories, a well equipped library, a theatre, sports arena, swimming centre and student’s activity centers having 600,000 square meters of floor space and over 200, 000 square meters of landscaped gardens. Moreover SAU also has an Aircraft Maintenance Center, the only one of its kind in the country, which is approved by the China Civil Aviation Authority to issue licenses to maintain helicopters. 20 aircrafts are provided for the students to practice within the campus. Over and above these, the university also has a hospital, comfortable accommodations and a number of dining halls. SAU has also built up ties with many companies and institutes including the Shenyang Liming Aero-engine Group Corporation, the Avic Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, and has developed a network of 50 partnerships to provide practical training opportunities to the students both inside and outside the campus.

FACULTY MEMBERS
A staff of about 16,000 including 900 academicians, 400 of whom are professors and associate professors are being engaged by the university. A number of foreign teachers are also on the rolls of the university and they have contributed to both the academic and cultural life of the school community.

STUDENTS
Currently more than 20,000 students are undergoing their studies at the university. In addition, over 380 international students are pursuing their education in the disciplines of Aircraft Manufacture, Aerospace Propulsion Theory and Engineering, International Business and Chinese Culture.
