The Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM in short) is one of the oldest seats of higher learning carrying out research activities on the traditional Chinese method of diagnosing and effective treatment of human ailments. In fact, this is the sole University on traditional Chinese medicine to figure in the prestigious 211 Project of the People’s Republic of China. The project aims at upgrading the various higher seats educational learning on all aspects to boost the all-round development of the country.
TRACING THE ROOTS
The Beijing University of Chinese Medicine was set up in 1956. The Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of China, took a major decision on July 31, 2000, and merged the following two institutions, namely the former Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and the former Beijing College of Acupuncture, Orthopedics and Traumatology into the new entity. The Ministry further declared it a ‘Priority University’ and took up the supervisory role of this key institution preserving and promoting the priceless age-old Chinese medicinal heritage. Once an educational institution is declared ‘priority’, the Chinese Government ensures that it gets the topmost priority in infrastructural upgradation.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
The primary aim of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is to groom the medical professionals on the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and dovetail it to the needs of the modern society. One of the prime objectives of BUCM is to encourage scientific research on the TCM treasure trove so that these Oriental medicines can be utilized in today’s medical treatment sector. There has been a growing trend in the demand to explore the time-tested TCM medicines.
ORIENTAL MEDICAL PHILOSOPHY
Chinese traditional medicines — as is the focal point of all traditional Oriental medicinal chests — have a holistic approach and strengthen the man-nature ties. This has been one of the prime reasons why the Oriental medical systems have been attracting worldwide attention.
Another aspect of the Oriental medical philosophy is to always respect Mother Nature and refurbish her. This approach is a prime means to make the Earth Green because Nature has all the ingredients to cure her flora and fauna including Man.
CAMPUS
This oldest seat of TCM is spread over a sprawling area of 25.3 million sq meters. True to the Oriental touch, the campus of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is surrounded by green woods and flowers. The entire region is a rich ecosystem hosting a varied range of exotic flora and fauna.
PROGRAMS
The Beijing University of Chinese Medicine today has a wide range of diverse programs including Chinese languages, economics, education, law, literature, management, medicine among others. Its undergraduate courses total 5950, master courses 688, and research avenues in 356 areas.
FACULTY-STUDENT SUPPORT BASE
BUCM has a well-developed faculty-student support base whereby both can avail of the all the campus facilities that cater to all aspects of academic pursuits.

The Wi-Fi sprawling campus of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine has the well-developed trunk interactive net service including the platforms for teaching pooled on multimedia courses.
