Established in 1951, the University of International Business and Economics is located in the north-eastern portion of Beijing. Also referred to as ‘UIBE’ in short, the university stresses on tapping promising talents and grooming them in objective research activities to further Chinese business and economy. Its multidisciplinary disciplines and international tie-ups have been attracting students from across the world. The university has been always opening its portals to outstanding scholars of all countries, and has been very cooperative in encouraging its members to foster international mercantile bridges, and in promoting global peace through cross-country economic intercourse and cultural exchanges. The university also offers training to government officials in charge of the country’s national and global commerce administration. It is done under the joint auspices of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation.
The Chinese Government recognized the institution as a key university in 1960 in recognition of its stupendous academic programs. Following the suspension of the Culture Revolution In 1978, the Chinese Government recognized the university as a national key university. Once Deng Xiaoping introduced the Chinese economic reforms, the university got a boost, and the university with the valuable support of the government embarked upon a course of never-before witnessed era of expansion and development. It was during that very year that the university got the present nomenclature of ‘University of International Business and Economics’. This key national seat of higher learning under the Ministry of Education was included in the first list of the prestigious ‘Project 211’ of the Chinese Government in May 1997. This government project focuses on tuning up approximately 100 universities into international-level academic centers by the 21st century. In 2000, UIBE gained the status of a state university under the Ministry of Education. In June that very year, UIBE was merged with the China Institute of Finance. This merger turned the tides in the favor of the newly formed organization which became one of the top leaders in the educational sector specializing not only in finance but also in business management economics, and law. Since its very birth, UIBE has been paying its utmost importance on business practice and academic research, as well as grooming its students to work in as diverse but also intersecting areas as business, economics, finance, foreign trade, foreign languages, and law among others.
One of the support bases of the University of International Business and Economics is its set of highly dedicated and extremely experienced faculty members. Most of the university professors possess overseas experience besides wide experiences in research and teaching, and therefore rank among the Chinese Government’s National Talent Cultivation Project. The University of International Business and Economics specializes in business management, business languages (foreign languages), economics, finance, international law, international trade, and liberal arts. With focus on attracting students from across the globe, the university presents more than 50 majors to overseas students in the degree, post-degree and doctoral stages. They can answer the answer scripts totally in English in some of the subjects in management and economics.
The university has on the average 13,000 full-time schooling students. Of them, about 3,000 plus students are foreign students from more than 150 countries. One of the prime reasons for the wide popularity of the UIBE courses is that the graduates have been able to meet the demands of the industry. They are welcomed by the industry for their foolproof professional skills and knowledge, positive and pragmatic attitude, strong linguistic acumen, and wide-ranging practical know-how. As a result, UBIE alumni have been playing nodal roles in the socio-economic development of a number of countries. A significant number of the UBIE graduates hold responsible positions in multinational (MNC) bodies, commercial and financial institutions abroad.
