Shenzhen University

INTRODUCTION
Shenzhen University (SZU) is a national university located in the city of Shenzhen in the southern part of the People’s Republic of China. Funded by the local government of Shenzhen, this seat of higher learning was set up in 1983. Though relatively new, SZU is the fastest-growing university in China. Spread over a sprawling 1.44 square kilometer campus across rolling hills, SZU also has a lake and abundant greenery and works of art dotting its campus.

ACHIEVEMENTS
Since its formation, the university has made rapid strides and has been actively involved in various reforms and innovations in the field of administration and academics. SZU has been providing research based programs in the graduate and post graduate courses and has made available state-of-the-art laboratories for its students. In 1995, the Shenzhen University passed through the Ministry of Education’s teaching evaluation program for undergraduate courses and was among the first group of universities in China to have its undergraduate programs verified. In 1996, the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the State Council authorized the SZU for teaching Master’s programs.

COURSES OFFERED
SZU has been providing 56 undergraduate programs, 72 programs leading to masters’ degrees and three doctorate programs in the 23 colleges. Its state-of-the-art laboratories and research centres include 7 in the field of science and engineering and 4 for research work in humanities and social sciences.

COLLABORATION WITH FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES
Shenzhen University has inter-college cooperative relations with more than 30 overseas universities like the Ritsumeikan University of Japan, Hankook University of Foreign Studies of Korea, University of Memphis in USA, and the Queen’s University of UK and so on.

FACULTIES
The faculty members of SZU are well known for their academic background and innovative spirit. At present 1,221 teachers and researchers; 253 professors, 568 associate professors, of which 464 have doctorate degrees, are working in the university. SZU has one academician in the Chinese Academy of Engineering, six academicians in both the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 44 guides of doctoral candidates.

STUDENTS
The SZU has a total number of 19437 registered undergraduate students, 1651 students pursuing their post graduate studies and over 1500 international students.

LIBRARY
The Shenzhen University (SZU) library has an enviable collection of approximately 3.16 million books and journals. Among this, 2.12 million comprises journals and books and 1.04 million are e-books in Chinese and other foreign language. Almost cent percent of the classrooms and lecture halls in the SZU campus have been digitalized and there are 30,000 internet connections in the campus.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
SUZ encourages its students to pursue extracurricular activities and therefore it nourishes an exuberant campus culture. Annual arts Festival and Sports meet are held within the campus.
