North Sichuan Medical College (NSMC), is a provincial medical school located in Nanchong city, Sichuan Province, China. North Sichuan Medical College (NSMC) is a government-run college of medicine in Sichuan Province and is located in the second largest higher education center of Sichuan Province, – Nanchong, a famous city, the origin of the Three Kingdoms Culture. The two campuses of NSMC occupy an area of over 823,693 square meters. It has over 400 members of the faculty holding Master’s or Doctorate degrees. More than 300 faculties have obtained the academic title of Professor and Associate Professor. In addition, there are over 50 returned scholars and experts. Over 20 of them enjoy special government subsidies or have been given positions of national leadership in their field.
There are 3 national scientific research labs, 3 provincial key subjects, 1 key lab, 1 top quality course and 13 key courses on the provincial level.
Its library has over 930,000 books and has subscribed to more than 1,567 Chinese, English and foreign periodicals in addition to over 17,000 electronic periodicals both in Chinese and foreign languages.
The college has first-class clinical training center; an advanced multi-media courseware making system, a 1000m-campus network of leading technology. All classrooms are equipped with multi-media teaching facilities, occupying more than 45,000m2. The total value of the college’s equipment for teaching and scientific research has amounted to more than 400 million Yuan (RMB).
North Sichuan Medical College is famous for its Faculty of Medical Imaging, which is one of the first 5 medical imaging faculties in China. In 2005, North Sichuan Medical College began to enroll its first postgraduate students.
NSMC has its national and international enrollment; its two campuses enroll nearly 10,000 students in undergraduate and postgraduate program. With the guidance of its motto, Commitment, Fraternity, Honesty, and Creativity, it has developed into an important national and provincial center of higher medical education, disease prevention, and rheumatism treatment since its establishment in 1951.
Campus
North Sichuan Medical has two separate campuses. The west campus, also known as the old campus, is located in the downtown Nanchong City, and the east campus, or the new campus, is located in Gaoping District of Nanchong City.
Achievements
In recent years, the college has undertaken 8 national research projects, 5 projects from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Public Health and State Chinese Medicine Administration, and 238 provincial key and scientific research projects. It has published 3,500 scientific research papers, 65 treatises, among which 54 papers have been embodied by SCI[disambiguation needed] and ET. The rate of employment among graduates remains above 95%, the highest among colleges in Sichuan Province.
Nanchang is a prefecture-level city situated in the Jiangxi province of the People’s Republic of China. With an area covering 7,372 sq. km, this metropolitan center is also a picture of scenic beauty. It is bounded by the Jiuling Mountains on the western side and the Poyang Lake on the eastern side. The city is located on the right bank of the river Gan and to the south of the Yangtze River.
CLIMATE
Nanchang experiences humid sub-tropical climate with short and cool winters and long and humid summers. The spring season is gloomy and the city experiences rains more than 220 mm every month from April to June. On the other hand during the autumn season the city experiences the lowest levels of rainfall of the whole year.
DEMOGRAPHY
Nanchang is inhabited by thirty seven ethnic groups with the total population amounting to 5,042,865, according to the 2010 population census.
AGRICULTURE
In the whole of the Jiangxi province, Nanchang is the hub for agricultural production. The main agricultural produce of the region are rice and oranges.
INDUSTRY
The main industrial activities of the city are electro-mechanics, metallurgy, aircraft manufacturing, automobile manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, textile, chemical engineering and traditional Chinese medicine, As part of the Jiangling Motor joint venture, the Ford Transit van is being assembled at the assembling plant of the Ford Motor Company.
ECONOMY
The gross domestic product of Nanchang in 2008 was valued at 166 billion Yuan which is equivalent to 24.3 billion USD. The per capita GDP was 36, 105 Yuan, equivalent to 5,285 USD. On the other hand, the total financial revenue accrued was 23 billion Yuan while the total value of imports and exports was 3.4 billion USD.
SPECIAL INDUSTRIAL ZONES
There are three national level industrial zones in Nanchang. They are the Nanchang Export Processing Zone, Nanchang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, and the Nanchang Economic and Technological Development Zone. Besides these there are also two Provincial level development zones. They are the Jiangxi Sanghai Economic and Technological Development Zone and the Nanchang Yingxiong Economic and Technological Development Zone. The Honggutan New District in the city is regarded as a Special economic district.
RAIL TRANSPORT
The Nanchang city is well connected by the railways and it is a major rail hub for southeastern China. The CRH (China Railway High-speed) service connects the city of Nanchang with the cities of Hangzhou, Changsha and Shanghai. The primary passenger rail stations of the city are the Nanchang Railway Station and the Nanchang West Railway Stations.
ROADWAYS
Nanchang has a well developed network of roads with a number of national highways crisscrossing the city.
AIRWAYS
The main international airport is Nanchang Changbei International Airport (KHN) built in 1996 and it is the only airport in Jiangxi Province which has an international air route.
WATERWAYS
With a number of water bodies like the rivers Gan and Fu and the , Qingshan and the Aixi Lakes in its vicinity, Nanchang’s water routes play a major role in trade and shipping .Nanchang Port happens to be the biggest port on the Gan River and passenger ships and boats ply commuters to destinations like the Poyang Lake, Stone Bell Hill, Poyang Lake Bird Protection Area and Dagu Hill.
