North China Electric Power University

The North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) is a national seat of research in Beijing, the capital city of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The institution is administered by the Chinese Ministry of Education. It is included both in the ‘Project 211’ as well as the ‘Project 985’. Spread across two campuses in Beijing and in Baoding, this key educational and research hub has been jointly set up by the Education Ministry and the University Council comprising the China Guodian Corporation, the State Grid Corporation of China, the China Huaneng Group, the China Datang Corporation, the China Huadian Corporation, the China Power Investment Corporation and the China Southern Power Grid Co. Ltd.

TRACING THE ROOTS

Set up way back in 1958, this prestigious university was initially named as the Beijing Institute of Electric Power. Later in 1970, it was shifted to the Baoding, Hebei province of China with the name North China Institute of Electric Power. The university got its present name after it was amalgamated with the Beijing Power Engineering and Electronics Institute in 1995. The university relocated its main campus from Baoding, Hebei province, back to Beijing in 2006 at the same time retaining the campus at Baoding.

FACULTY STAFF

The faculty members of the different departments of the university are highly qualified and well known persons in their respective fields. Professor Yang Qixun the founder of the field of power system micro-computer protection and automation in China was one of the first members of Chinese Academy of Engineering. In the field of electric power Professor Yang Yihan and Song Zhiping are eminent guides for doctoral candidates.

STUDENTS

With a rich history of more than 40 years, this key university attracts a large number of domestic as well as foreign students every year. Over 10,000 students are presently pursuing their studies at the various schools of the university which includes about six hundred students studying for the graduate courses in engineering technology, management, economics and the social sciences.

COLLABORATION WITH FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES

The North China Electric Power University has set up inter-collegiate exchange programmes with universities and institutes in more than 20 countries and regions such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Britain, America, France, and Macao .

The library at NCEPU, covering a floor space of eleven thousand square metres, has an impressive collection of over one million books on varied subjects.

KEY RESEARCH LABORATORIES

The university has a number of key laboratories both under the Ministry of Education and at the provincial level. Under the Ministry of Education, there are two laboratories, the Laboratory of State Monitoring and Control of Power Plant Equipment and the Laboratory of Power System Protection and Dynamic Security Monitoring. At the provincial level, there are the Laboratory of Industrial Process Simulation and Control, Laboratory of Energy Security and Clean Utilization, Laboratory of State Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis of Thermal Power Equipment, Laboratory of Power System Intelligent Protection and Control, Laboratory of Analysis and Testing of Electromagnetic Fields and Electromagnetic Compatibility and the Laboratory of High Voltage and Electromagnetic Compatibility.
