Liaoning Medical University (LMU)

Liaoning Medical University is in Jinzhou, Liaoning, China. It was founded in 1946. Liaoning Medical University (LMU) is located in the coastal city of Jinzhou in Liaoning Province, east of Beijing.

The University is represented officially in India by Medico Abroad located at Hyderabad. The first batch of foreign students for English Medium Under Graduate Course in Medicine from India completed their Degree in 2010.

The campus covers 1,140,000 square meters and has floor-space 279,000 square meters. It lies in the north of the city. The LMU offers six kinds of education: general high education, state-owned privately run education, adult education, vocational education, online education and international students` education. It enrolls undergraduate and postgraduate students. The University is recognised by World Health Organization WHO and listed in the world medical directory.

The campus covers 1,140,000 square meters. LMU has 17 teaching departments, 116 teaching offices, 12 teaching laboratories, 3 main affiliated comprehensive hospitals with 4750 sick beds, and 122 bases for teaching and practice. Among the 4000 faculty members there are 525 associate professors and 302 professors and chief doctors. There are approximately more than 12,000 students studying a wide range of medicine-related courses at the university, including over 700 international students from 34 countries. We offer 22 undergraduate programs including Clinical Medicine (MBBS) and Pharmacy in English medium and Clinical Medicine (MBBS), Pharmacy, Medical Imaging Radiology, Anesthesiology and others in Chinese medium. We offer 67 postgraduate programs in both English and Chinese medium, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and 7 joined-doctor degree programs as well including Surgery, Nursing etc. Moreover, we offer Chinese language courses, tour study programs, etc. LMU is amongst those universities that are allowed to offer the program of MBBS in English medium by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. LMU is recognized by WHO and ECFMG.

Among the faculty members there are 823 full-time teachers, 74 of whom have been granted a doctoral degree, 533 associate professors and 219 professors and chief doctors.

The university’s library has an advanced electronic reading room and has access to the retrieval system for medical documents from the American MEDLINE and the Chinese Medical Institute.

The total number of students has amounted to 13,806 of which 190 are international students, all of whom are currently studying in the undergraduate program taught in English. Furthermore, the university is actively involved in international academic exchange activities with universities abroad, such as the University of Glasgow and regularly exchanges scholars and specialists to give lectures. About 120 teachers have been sent to more than 20 countries to study and involve in research.

Jinzhou

Jinzhou is a prefecture-level city of Liaoning province, People’s Republic of China. It is a geographically strategic city located in the “Liaoxi Corridor”, which connects land transportation between North China and Northeast China. Jinzhou is China’s northernmost seaport and the coastal economic center of West Liaoning on the north-western shore of the Bohai Sea. The total area under the jurisdiction of Jinzhou is 10,111 square kilometres (3,904 sq mi), most of which is rural, encompassing a coastline of 97.7 km (60.7 mi).

It is one of the biggest cities in Liaoning with a population of 3,126,463 at the 2010 census, of whom 1,091,799 reside in the built-up area made of 3 urban districts.

Transport

Jinzhou Airport provides air transport to major airports in China. There are two railway stations in the city, one designated for long trips and one for shorter routes. The most popular way to get around Jinzhou is on foot or by bicycle. Taxis crowd the streets and start at 5 RMB per trip. Bus routes also blanket the city and provide the most economical means of transportation, but are not always reliable.

Major Tourist Sites

“Liaoshen Campaign Memorial” The Liaoshen Campaign Memorial is a large museum that holds and displays over 16,000 pieces of equipment used during the campaign, including rifles, machine guns, mortars, cannons, and tanks. It also holds thousands of pictures and documents. The best known exhibit inside the museum is the Panoramic Picture Hall, which reproduces the complete Battle of Jinzhou on a rotating circular screen.

“Yiwulü Mountain” Located in the west of Beizhen City of Jinzhou, it is one of the three sacred mountains in Northeast China. Wanghai Mountain is the main peak, with a height of 867 meters above the sea level, and tourist spots such as Beizhen Temple, Shenshui Bridge, Fish Pool, Guanyin Pavilion, Sijiao Pavilion, Kuangguang Pavilion, Lotus Stone, Cloud Pass and Wanghai Temple are scattered throughout the mountain range.

“Mount Bijia” This is an interesting island in the Bohai Sea south of Jinzhou’s coastline. During most time of the day, Mt. Bijiashan can only be accessed by boat, but when the sea recedes, a natural zigzagging cobblestone bridge emerges from the Bohai Sea and connects Mt. Bijia to the mainland. People can walk to Mount Bijia from the seafront on foot and local people have named this natural wonder “Tian Qiao”, (lit: Sky Bridge). On the top of the mountain there is a tall stone pavilion, which resembles a gigantic pen resting on a pen holder, hence the name “Bijiashan”, meaning the “Pen Holder Mountain”.

“Guangji Pagoda” The Guangji Pagoda is located in Guta Park situated at the heart of Jinzhou. The 72 metre tower is beautiful Liao style architecture, with thirteen levels in an octagonal shape. A quiet temple beneath completes the ancient Chinese setting. Visitors will see locals gather for early morning rituals, exercise and various other activities. There is no fee for admission to the temple grounds.
