Jiangsu University (JU)

One of the principal educational hubs of China, the Jiangsu University (JU) was formed with the merger of two organizations, namely the Zhenjiang Teacher’s College and the Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. This is one of the first educational institutions in the country to be authorized to grant doctorates and master’s degrees in China.

Located in the historical and cultural city of Jiangsu in Zhenjiang (southern China), the campus of this varsity is spread across an area of 210 hectares. Founded on 28 August 2001, the total floor space of the university is 800,000 square meters. The university library has a rich collection of 1.5 million books on varied topics.

Ranked among the top 100 universities of China, the Jiangsu University (JU) has nine principal disciplines in the areas of administration, economics, education, engineering, medicine, science, and social science. There are 23 schools offering the following programs: one state-level key discipline, two provincial-level key labs, two provincial-level engineering centers, six provincial key disciplines, 11 engineering master’s programs, 67 bachelor’s programs, 60 master’s programs, 25 doctor’s programs, two Class A doctor’s degree-granting disciplines, and five post-doctoral programs.

Guided by the principles of being ‘human oriented’ and ‘teaching-centered’, the students of JU have achieved accolades at various inter-institution competitions in academics, computer, English, Mathematics, Mechanics, Physics, scientific and technological works as well as extra-curricular activities.

The university has an annual fulltime student enrolment of over 28,000. Of them, more than 3,000 are in various graduate streams. The mammoth organization is manned by a staff of more than 5,000 trained people. This army includes both the academicians as well as the personnel working in the hospitals affiliated to the university. There are seven academicians, more than 150 professors and senior professionals besides 50 supervisors to guide candidates pursuing various researches

JU has been carrying on several academic exchanges and cooperation programs with other reputed universities of the world. It has tie-ups with the Mie University of Japan, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee of the USA, the Chiangmai University of Thailand and the Don University of Technology of Russia. Intercollegiate exchanges have been taking place with Austria, Britain, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Russia, Singapore and USA.

The Research and Development (R&D) wing of JU has carved a niche for itself. The university has bagged the title of ‘The Top Ten State Patent Institutions in Jiangsu’. More than 100 items innovated by the R&D wing of the institution have been marked among the top 30 inventions, and have received state patents.
