The Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT in short) has carved a niche for itself in research and academics especially in the fields of cable communications, computer, electronic engineering, and wireless communications. A National University, this strategic seat of higher learning is directly monitored by the People’s Liberation Army’s Communications Department (under the direct jurisdiction of the General Staff Department) and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People’s Republic of China. The Chinese education department counts it among the 73 key Universities of the country.

MOTTO

The motto of the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications is 厚德 博学 敬业 乐群. Translated into English, it means ‘Learned devotion and gregariousness.’

NOMENCLATURES

This premier academic-cum-research institution on communication was earlier known as the Beijing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications. It was rechristened as the Beijing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications in 1993.

Founded in 1955, this was the singular seat of higher learning in telecommunications in the country at that point of time.

It is among the maiden 61 Chinese academia to be included in the prestigious ‘Project 211’ of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). This government scheme focuses on upgrading 100 nationally recognized main universities at par with international standards within the 21^st century.
