The Central Government of Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is now starting its efforts in expanding the region’s bilingual education for both rural and pasturing preschools and open opportunities for these children to learn.
With an investment worth 1 billion yuan or $153.7 million for the entire project, Xinjiang will be constructing 552 bilingual kindergardens close to far flung areas and offer these bilingual curriculum for three years instead of the usual two-year curriculum used in the rural areas of Xinjiang. It is the hope of the central government that 85% of preschoolers in the region would be able to get bilingual education by 2020 and last year, at least 77% preschoolers were reported to have attended these facilities. At least 2,500 bilingual preschool facilities were built in the rural areas for the past five years.
The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is the home of the Uygur ethnic groups and with the availability of bilingual education for these minorities would help in allowing these Uygurs to get better jobs in the country.
