Guangzhou Medical University (GMU)

Guangzhou Medical University, formerly known as Guangzhou Medical College, is a Chinese medical school located in Guangzhou which is the third largest port city in China, Guangdong Province. It was established in 1958. Guangzhou Medical University is composed of four campuses. The main Campus is located in Dongfeng Road West and the other three campuses are in Longdong, Haizhu and Jianggao. GMU has 15 schools, 8 affiliated hospitals and11 non-directly affiliated hospitals. GMU offers 19 full-time undergraduate programs, 5 Level-I master degree granting programs, 35 Level-II master degree granting programs, 1 Level-I doctorial degree granting programs and 1 post-doctorial research station. GMU enjoys extensive international exchanges, it has created good cooperation and exchange with more than 19 universities and research intuitions in foreign countries and districts in academic exchanges activities and research collaborations.

GMU faces 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Chinese central government, Hong Kong and Macao regions to recruit 1,500 undergraduates and 550 postgraduates (master and doctors) in each year. It exists 23300 full-time students, including 10000 undergraduates, 1300 graduates, and 12000 continuing educational students.

GMU has excellent facilities. More than 90% of the current equipment are A and B class, and value of them is￥67.4972 million yuan. GMU provide a good informationize education environment, with modern teaching management command center and audiovisual education centre. All teaching places have basic implementation of air conditioning, networked and e-service. MBBS Degree

(Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) Complete the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully. If international medical undergraduates meet the degree regulations, then they will award a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by GMU. The English copy of the degree will state as MBBS. After obtaining MBBS Degree, the undergraduates can apply to take the medical licensing examination in the medical council in order to get registered and practice medicine. According to the regulations in different countries, the students may need the academic accreditation first. Guangzhou

Guangzhou (also romanized as: Canton; less-commonly known as Kwangchow) is the capital and largest city of Guangdong province in South China. Located on the Pearl River, about 120 km (75 mi) north-northwest of Hong Kong and 145 km (90 mi) north of Macau, Guangzhou serves as an important national transportation hub and trading port. One of the five National Central Cities, it holds sub-provincial administrative status.

Guangzhou is the third-largest Chinese city and the largest city in South Central China. As of the 2010 census, the city’s administrative area had a population of 12.78 million. Some estimates place the population of the entire Pearl River Delta Mega City built-up area as high as 40 million including Shenzhen (10.36 million), Dongguan (8.22 million), most parts of Foshan (7.19 million), Jiangmen (4.45 million), Zhongshan (3.12 million) and a small part of Huizhou adjoining Dongguan and Shenzhen, with an area of about 20,000 square kilometres (7,700 sq mi).

Climate

Located just south of the Tropic of Cancer, Guangzhou has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cfa) influenced by the East Asian monsoon. Summers are wet with high temperatures, high humidity, and a high heat index. Winters are mild and comparatively dry. Guangzhou has a lengthy monsoon season, spanning from April through September. Monthly averages range from 13.6 °C (56.5 °F) in January to 28.6 °C (83.5 °F) in July, while the annual mean is 22.6 °C (72.7 °F), the relative humidity is approximately 68 percent, whereas annual rainfall in the metropolitan area is over 1,700 mm (67 in). With monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 17 percent in March and April to 52 percent in November, the city receives 1,628 hours of bright sunshine annually, considerably less than nearby Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Extreme temperatures have ranged from 0 °C (32 °F) to 39.1 °C (102 °F). The last recorded snowfall in the city was in January 1893.

Air transport

Guangzhou’s main airport is the Baiyun International Airport in Huadu District opened on August 5, 2004. This airport is also the 2nd busiest airport in terms of traffic movements in China. It replaced the old Baiyun International Airport, which was very close to the city centre and failed to meet the fast-growing air traffic demand. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport now has two runways, with three more planned to be built.

Guangzhou is the terminus of the Jingguang railway (Beijing–Guangzhou), the Guangshen railway (Guangzhou–Shenzhen), the Guangmao railway (Guangzhou–Maoming) and the Guangmeishan railway (Guangzhou–Meizhou–Shantou). In late 2009, the Wuhan–Guangzhou High-Speed Railway started its service, which enables multiple unit trains to cover 980 km (608.94 mi) at a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph). In January 2011, the Guangzhou–Zhuhai Intercity Railway started its service at an average speed of 200 km/h (124 mph).

River transport

There are daily high-speed catamaran services between Nansha Ferry Terminal and Lianhua Shan Ferry Terminal in Guangzhou and the Hong Kong China Ferry Terminal, as well as between Nansha Ferry Terminal and Macau Ferry Pier in Hong Kong.
